Hydarnes an influential name in the Achaemenid Empire:1. Hydarnes ; Persian nobleman, one of the seven aids of Dariush the Great who killed the Magian usurper Gaumata, and helped Dariush the Great become king of the Achaemenid empire and was rewarded with the satrapy of Media. Hydarnes was a very influential man: from the tablets found at Persepolis, we know that in 499, he was still Satrap of Media. This was one of the most important Satrapies;According to Herodotus; in 480, his son Sisamnes was satrap of Aria and that the younger Hydarnes was in command of the whole Asian seaboard.2. Hydarnes, son of Hydarnes, was an prominent Persian commander. Xerxes appointed Hydarnes as the general in charge of the Ten Thousand Immortals during the Persian Wars with Greece. He successfully led the Immortals to Greece. During the battle of Thermopylae (Sep, 480), Hydarnes and his men made a nightly detour through the mountains and attacked the Greeks in their rear. After the victory led back the army over the Hellespont to Iran.Descendants of Hydarnes remained influential in Persia: Tissaphernes became satrap of Lydia and Caria in the years 413-395 and another Hydarnes was the father-in-law of king Artaxerxes II Mnemon. The Hydarnes family fell into disfavor in 395 BCE. (Wikipedia) - Hydarnes

Hydarnes (Ancient Greek: Ὑδάρνης; Old Persian Vidarna "the ripper") was an eminent Persian, the commander of the "Ten Thousand Immortals" during the time of king Xerxes invasion of Greece.Hydarnes was a famous soldier and commander loyal to the great Persian Empire. He served King Darius and his son Xerxes as well. Hydarnes tried to stop Xerxes from his foolish mistakes from time to time. After the battle of thermopylae, Hydarnes stopped serving Xerxes. If Xerxes had listened to Hydarnes in his battles he might have been more successful in battles and wars against Greece. Hydarnes helped Darius become Emperor before the fake Bardiya jeopardized the empire.

Perhaps the most famous episode involving Satrap Hydarnes and his Immortals came at the Thermopylae in 480 BC, when they came into contact with Leonidas of Sparta.

According to Persian Resources, Hydarnes or Vidarna led King Darius''s Persian Army and jeopardised and destroyed the Medes army and went to Pasargadae and stopped the fake Bardia.

Hydarnes'' name was ruined because he served Xerxes at Thermopylae. He was a great Persian Commander and Satrap and died apparently in a desert in Middle Persia.
