The Iranian king Khosrau Parviz who was imprisoned in the Tisfun palace was executed on this day after a decision by generals, noblemen and his own son Shirouyeh. His reign was disastrous for Iranians because of unnecessary actions such as deployment of armed forces to Egypt, disrespecting Christians by bringing the Holy Cross from Palestine to Tisfun, losing great army generals like Bahram Chubin and thus creating dissatisfaction among civilians. The country had become weak and many new enemies were created. His last unforgiveable act was deserting the Iranian army while they were fighting against Romans. After this disgraceful escape he had become an alcoholic. His son Shirouyeh or Ghobad 2 became his successor, however the concessions that he gave to the Romans could not stop the downfall of the Sassanid Empire which was struggling with internal and external turmoil.
