Bahai Leader Bab Executed

By: Mir M.Hosseini

Seyyed Alimohammad Shirazi also known as Bab was executed in Tabriz at the age of 31. The execution order was personally approved by Naseroddin Shah of Qajar dynasty who had just ascended the throne. One of his followers named Molla Mohammad Ali was also executed. Bab is known as the founder of the Bahai faith.
He was born on Oct, 20, 1819 in Shiraz. After working for some time for his uncle in Bushehr, at the age of 21, he made a trip to Karbala and met with Seyyed Kazem Rashti, a prominent clergyman. When he went to Mecca in 1844, he made his call and claimed that he was "the one" the Muslim world was waiting for. This irritated the top Shiite leaders, specially the Qajar rulers who considered themselves guardians of the faith. Bab was not the first one, nor will be the last to put forward the claim of being Messiah. Many accusations have been made against him such as being a liar or foreign agent, however his faith has been expanding internationally although seen as a threat by the Iranian regime.
