    Arbela is a town in ancient Assyria, situated between the Great and the Little Zab in Kurdistan of Iraq. It was founded by Aramaic tribes and became a religious center during the Assyrian kingdom with a temple dedicated to Ishtar. Arbela was part of the Achaemenid Empire for hundreds of years.
