    1-Artabazus son of Pharnaces: Persian nobleman who held various commands during the first half of the fifth century. Artabazus was the son of Pharnaces, the chief economic official of king Dariush the Great (522-486). Pharnaces owned large possessions in Hellespontine Phrygia and his son Artabazus must have seen this region when he was young. During the Greek expedition of king Xerxes (in 480-479), Artabazus first commanded the mounted archers from Chorasmia and Parthia.2- Artabazus son of Pharnabazus: Persian nobleman (c.389-325), played a very important role during the war between Alexander the Great and the Achaemenid empire.Artabazus was born in c.389 as younger son of Pharnabazus, the satrap of Hellespontine Phrygia, i.e., the northwest of what is now Turkey. The family descended from Pharnaces, the chief economic official of king Dariush the Great (522-486). Pharnaces owned large possessions in Hellespontine Phrygia and his son, who was also called Artabazus, and knew the country, was appointed satrap of Hellespontine Phrygia in 477.
