    Aryandes was the Persian satrap of Egypt in the late sixth century BCE. He was first appointed in c. 525 BCE by Cambyses, the Achaemenid conqueror of Egypt. In 521 BCE, Aryandes dealt with several rebellions, one of them led by a local dynast named Petubastis. When king Dariush the Great visited the Satrapy of Egypt in September 518 B.C. Aryandes had served for more than four years as Satrap of Egypt. During this visit:Dariush buried the sacred Apis bull and ordered search for a new Apis, which was found on November, 9. He dedicated a temple to Amun and then ordered a canal also to be dug between the river Nile and the Red Sea which was completed in 497.According to Herodotus, Aryandes as governor of Egypt had issued the purest silver coinage in his own name that competed with Daric, gold coinage issued by Dariush. This was the reason why Dariush had Aryandes executed after a quarter of century serving as Satrap of Egypt. After Aryandes, Pharandates became the Satrap of Egypt. In 521 BCE, Aryandes probably dealt with a rebellion led by a local dynast named Petubastis. By 510, Aryandes fell foul of the reigning Persian monarch, Darius I, and was executed.
