Persians Enter Europe
Jul, 13, 513 BC
The Iranian army headed by General Bogoas defeated the Getae confederation forces south of Danube river. This victory that added the east Balkan to the Achaemenid realm was historically the first time an eastern empire advanced so deep towards West. The Persian army which consisted of 80,000 units crushed the allied forces of local rulers. This territory named Dacia was later mentioned in Bisotoun inscriptions as a satrapy of Iran. Centuries later Romans called this territory Romania. (Updated: Apr, 4, 2008)
